Channel 5 adds weathercaster; Channel 25 focuses on health Not a lot of music news for you this week, but lots of media stuff. Here goes: O Lori A. Miller is the new meteorologist at WNEM. She’ll debut Monday on Channel 5’s 11 p.m. newscast. She’ll anchor the weathercasts at 6 and 11 p.m. weekdays. Miller, a meteorologist for 12 years, earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of St. Thomas in Houston. She’s relatively new to TV, having interned at Houston’s KRTV last year and anchored for KCEN in Waco, Texas, since last February (no Branch Davidian jokes, please). Before that, she was a meteorologist for the Universal Weather and Aviation service, Federal Express and the Institute for Storm Research. Doug Pullen MUSIC/MEDIA Miller replaces Mike Hoffman, who moved on to South Bend, Ind., this summer. Brian Wood moves back to his usual spot on the morning and noon newscasts next week, and Eric Jylha resumes his weekend weather duties. 9 Channel 25 (WEYI) has hired Dr. Deanna LItes as the area’s first TV medical reporter. Her “Eye on Medicine” reports air at 6 and 11 p.m. She last worked for Detroit’s WDIV, and contributes to “For Your Health,” which is broadcast on Kmart’s national corporate satellite network. “My focus,” she says, “will be on easy-to- understand helpful information with local appeal.” O More moves afoot at Channel 5: Jennifer Hogan, formerly a news producer for Channel 12 (WJRT), is now WNEM’s assistant news director. Other additions: former WEYI reporter Christine Mahoney, and new noon and 5 p.m. news producer Holly Sheppard and reporter/anchor Diann Sytek (both formerly of Traverse City’s WBPN). Promotions: reporter-photographer Ric Mixter to 6 and 11 p.m. news executive producer; Art Nell from sports anchor to sports director; Marji Carmien to sales traffic administrator. 9 Channel 5’s new campaign theme, “Together with TV5,” is the brainchild of Creative Services Director Michelle Keilitz, who said the new promotional campaign was inspired by a relief effort she joined last April in war-tom Bosnia. “When-I got back in the office here, I thought, ‘OK, what’s this all about?'
