of Arabi- and Channel 13 To Have No Network Shows When Anchorage’s newest col or television station, KHAR-TV, Channel 13, comes on the air with a special spook show Hal loween night, it will be the only one of the three local stations which will have no network af filiation. Station KTVA presently has CBS, and KENI doubles up on NBC and ABC. “We have no plans to try to begin all - network program- ming,'' said Willis Harpei, own- Extra Effort Brings A Bonus For Lee Marvin HOLLYWOOD - Although Academy Award winner Lee Marvin rates among Holly wood’s best paid stars, he never theless received a- bonus for his work in the suspense drama, “Point Blank,” in which he co- stars with Angie Dickinson. At the party held 1 on the set at the end of filming, Marvin received a gift from the cast and crew members. It was a stuntman’s check. Marvin had performed his own dangerous stunts, including getting caught on a barbed wire fence at -Alcatraz and swimming in San Francisco Bay'in 38-de- gree water — hence the bonus. “Point Blank” opens this month in theatres across the country. John Boorman directed the film, which co-stars Keenan Wynn, Sharon Acker and John Vernon. Petition Asks For New Election HAINES (AP) - A petition calling for a new election on the er of KHAR. ‘“For one thing, the;neJworks already have con tracts with the other stations. But more important, we feel we can be of better service to the community by having more lo cal time available. There will be no network demands to take into consideration." Most of the material run on KHAR will' be syndicated pro grams purchased individually by the station. A number of popular series, Harpei said, although they may have been seen here before, will be here in color for the first time: “We will be featuring quite a few movies,” Harpei said. “We have already purchased a thou sand of them, but at 20 a week they go pretty fast.” Three well-known films which trill be shown during the first week of programming will be “Sayonara,” “Damn Yankees" and “The Remarkable Mr. Pen- nypacker."- Other movies com ing up soon will be “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” and “The Man in' the Gray Flannel Suit" “One. thing we can assure the people is that we will begin our programs on time,” Harpei said. “With no national .adver- tising to crowd in, we can ar range our local advertising to fit a prearranged schedule.” Herb Shaindlin, news director for KHAR radio, will handle' news for television as well. Ra dio man Ruben Gaines will pre sent the weather with a novel cartoon approach, and Tom Far rell will report sports. “Alaska Scene," which will be seen each Sunday at 6 p.m. will feature all types of films con cerning Alaska, with some local footage. The station will be on the air each day from 2:30 p.m. until the end of the evening movie, 11 or 11:45 p.m. WHETHER'IT'S
