Buckley Buys in TV Slafion Bid William F. Buckley Jr., pub lisher of the National Review and once a Conservative Party candidate for mayor of New York City, has purchased a ma jor interest in an application for a new ultra-high frequency television station in Topeka. Starr Broadcasting Group, Inc., of which Buckley is pres ident, has purchased 38 per cent of the stock of Topeka TV, Inc., an applicant for Channel 43,, UHF television, according to the application filed with the Fed eral Communications Commis sion last week. The Starr company also owns radio station KOWH in Omaha and recently purchased KUDL in Kansas City. If a construction permit is re ceived, it would be the second UHF station in Topeka. KTSB- TV, operating on Channel 27, is scheduled to begin operations in the fall. Principal stockholder in the Channel 43 application is Paul Aiken, an attorney in Washing ton, D.C., and former Democrat candidate for the U.S. Senate from Kansas in 1950. A number of other stock holders — Topekans — have reduced their holdings in the proposed station. They include Charles R. Bennett, Anderson Chandler, J. A. Dickinson, Dr. A. A. Fink, Frank E. Hurd, Louis Pozez and L. V. Thomp son. The application proposes a 1,020-foot tower for the station,) to be located two miles north- 1 east of Silver Lake.
