Local stations sought for family, religious airtime By Mark Gregory Staff writer In separate endeavors, a broadcasting company hopes to resurrect local television station KRZB-TV, Channel 26, to have reli gious programming beamed in from Little Rock, and a local church seeks to launch a family-oriented channel on Resort Television Cable. Agape Church Inc., owner of KVTN, Channel 25, in Little Rock awaits Federal Communications Commission approval to buy the KRZB license from PPD and G Inc., owned by Darlene Bell, former wife of Little Rock businessman Melvyn L. Bell. If the sale is approved, KVTN plans to simulcast its programming to KRZB, sim ilar to the way AETN broadcasts to satellite stations, KVTN station manager Randy Wright said Tuesday. KVTN, licensed out of Pine Bluff, also asked the FCC for approval to boost KRZB’s transmitter power, which would send clear er signals to Benton and Arkadelphia. Wright said KVTN wants to broadcast in the Hot Springs area because of local in terest in its programming, which is reli gious oriented. KVTN will work with Hot Springs churches, possibly broadcasting local ser vices, he said. “We’ve had our eye on it (KRZB) a long time,” Wright said, adding that negotia tions to buy the station started about two months ago. Meanwhile, Second Baptist Church is spearheading an effort to transmit pro gramming on a local cable channel, in as sociation with Christians for Greater Hot Springs, a group of 30 to 35 local churches.
