HOT SPRINGS NATIONAL PARK,-ARKANSAS FCC extends time limit to construct TV tower By R.L Jackson The Sentinel-Record The Federal Communications Commission in Washington, D.C., has granted an extension of KRZB’s construction permit until October, but the only evi dence the station exists is a truck parked near the Medical Arts Building on Central Ave nue. KRZB has a license to operate on Ultra High Frequency televi sion Channel 26 in Hot Springs. The station stopped operating in March 1988, when it was an nounced 20 employees would be laid off and construction would begin on a 5-million watt transmitter and a taller tower on Jack Mountain. The original construction per mit was issued March 31, 1988 for a period of one-year. The station, owned by PPD&G Inc., whose principal stock holder is Little Rock investor Melvyn Bell, planned to be back on the air within 120 days of the issuance of the permit The first year passed and .‘an extension for another year .was' granted. ‘ ( The last extension expired. March 31 but another extension was granted until Oct 6 of this year. v \ In August 1988, PPD&G filed ' for protection under Chapter 11 of the Federal Bankruptcy Law. Chapter 11 protects the sta tion from creditors while a re organization plan is submitted and approved by creditors and stockholders. ' When the bankruptcy was^ filed, PPD&G claimed it owed 118 creditors, including several / Hot Springs businesses. According to the bankruptcy court’s record, the reorganiza tion failed to take place due to an inability to obtain financing. Efforts to contact officials at KRZB resulted in a Southwest ern Bell Telephone operator coming on the line saying the phone had been disconnected and no other number was listed.
